Is the book "How to Cheat in Motion" still a relevant book being that it is five years old and I believe is tailored to Motion 3? Also I read somewhere that if you buy the digital version you do not get the practice files. Does anyone have any experience with the book and in particular the digital version?

Yes, its absolutely still relevant. There are a couple of exercises that require you to stretch your awareness a little bit as they use filters that no longer exist in Motion 5 (or, to be more accurate, they exist, but have been re-named and the parameters have been altered - I'm looking at you bump map) but all in all, you will learn a lot by using it.

The copy I had was missing the cd but I found that I didn't miss anything. Virtually every exercise allows you to use your own media and the instructions are step-by-step; I think the only thing you'd miss from the cd is an example to compare your work against but in my experience, this was not a problem.

I have the book too and really like it. Motion has changed a bit over the years, but not so much that you can't still create the projects.
