How do I add parameters to a generator?

How do I add parameters to a generator? was created by CMessineo
I'm trying to create some custom generators for use in FCP.
For example, I want to start with the default Soft Gradient generator, but then I want to add a parameter so I can control the Aspect Ratio (so I can make the gradient a circle or an oval of my choosing).
But, I can't figure out how to add new parameters in Motion (that can then be passed over to FCP).
Thanks in advance for any help,
Chris

This is known as 'publishing' a parameter. Search for publishing in the Motion help system.
I suggest you read the 'Creating Templates for Final Cut Pro X' section of the help system:

Alex,
Thanks for the quick reply, but I guess my question wasn't very clear.
I know you have to "publish" a parameter for it to show up in FCP.
But, I don't know how to ADD a NEW parameter to a generator in Motion.
For example, I would like to be able to add an ASPECT RATIO parameter to my generator, so that it can be more than just a circle.
I hope that makes sense.

You can't add parameters to filters, behaviors or generators.
You need to work out which combinations of existing parameters will cause the range of effect you want and rig them to a widget.
In this case you could rig the X scale and Y scale of the parameter to a 'Aspect Ratio' slider widget.
Select your generator. Go to the Properties panel.
Control- or Right-click the Scale X parameter and choose Add To Rig:Create New Rig:Add To New Slider
Rename the 'Slider' to 'Aspect Ratio Widget'
Control- or Right-click the Scale Y parameter and choose Add To Rig:Rig:Aspect Ratio Widget
...then follow the instructions in the 'To Create the SLR rig's snapshots' section of

Alex,
Thanks again for all your help.
I just created my first custom generator and it turned out great!
