Image stabilising HD footage from my camcorder

I don't use FCP but today acquired Motion 5 with the intention of image stabilising some shaky footage shot on my Panasonic HD camcorder. The files are mts naturally so they cannot be imported as such into Motion 5 as I understand it. Therefore what format should I convert them to in order to best preserve their quality for later editing? And how? I guess I should also ask whether Motion 5 will give me decent results as far as IS is concerned? How would I export the stabilised footage? sorry to be such a needy newbie but any responses are appreciated!

As far as IS in motion 5 is concerned, Google is your friend. There are lots of articles and videos on how to stabilize your video. As far as your media is concerned, convert to apple ProRes. I am sure you will get a better response from others here, but if you read the tutorials online at least you will have a start.

Thanks but you're the only responder so far. I'm confident I can get to grips with Motion 5 I just wanted to elicit some views on how effective it is? Could I ask you the best method to convert my mts files to Apple ProRes?
Cheers,
N

OK. If you have motion 5 you should have the apple codecs on your mac. If not hit the update software tab to download the codecs. Then you need to get MPEG Streamclip. Open your video file in stream clips and convert to Apple ProRes. Then you can import into Motion 5. Sorry I don't have the link for MPEG Streamclip. If you need help getting the codecs try this
