Motion 5: scrubbing painfully slow. was created by
New to Motion here.
I'm making a short movie of ferns growing. The basic animation is the stem grows up and the little leaves individually grow out from it.
I then want the camera to move through the ferns in order to look at another object.
I'm trying to scrub through the timeline to match up growing plants with the camera as it moves by them and it is so slow it's nearly impossible to work.
1) I've tried to view it using 1/2 resolution and draft quality (and the ones lower than that too I think). It didn't help.
2) I tried to download Preference manager to delete all my pref. It didn't help.
3) I've tried to hide the other layers while I work on one. It didn't help.
4) I'm not using field rendering.
Here's my machine (I'm not a hardware savvy person; this is my work machine, so if I need to post more please let me know)
Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63
I think this machine should be very powerful right? I'm confused as to why it can't handle Motion and about 10 growing plants.
Any help would be awesome!

Have you tried a RAM preview? 10 growing plants might be too much for the GPU

Hi Pete,
I tried the RAM preview on the Selection (timeline got the fuzzy green glow to it), and I then played it back at 4 fps.
The ferns do have a quite a lot of leaves on them, perhaps it's just too much to handle? I hate for that to be the answer.
I've attached a picture of the ferns.
