Making a part of a clip in M5 slowmo for FC was created by gr8pics
I have a clip that i want partly to be slowed down in M5, and later on for import to my FC event.
Its a splashing scene, but when i try to choose the sequence in M5, i can only find options for trimming the whole clip for the slowmo, not just the sequence of that part i want in slowo.
Where do i find the tool for that?
If i knew how to insert that slowmo sequence into FC later, i dont need to do this, but if thats easy, how do i snap the slow sequence made in M5 into the correct position in FC later?
Is there a easy way to do that?
Sorry if i explained this in a difficult way

Not sure what you mean by clip vs sequence. Are you saying you only want to export a small segment of the whole Motion timeline? If so, you can set playback In and Out points in the timeline, then in the export window specify to only export between those points.

Lets say i have a 10 sec clip, and in the middle of that clip, i wish to slow down a sequence of 3 secs, so i get this sudden stop and go effect, but i cant find the same range and trim tools as in FCP, therefore i wonder how to select that specific sequence in the middle of that clip, or iow, where is the tool for that?
I guess the easiest way is to export the whole clip to Motion, and then fix it there, but again, how do i select the sequence/part in Motion?

It sounds like you are using FCPX, since you used the word Event. If you are, why use Motion? This is now MUCH easier than in FCP 7. Just put your clip in a Project (timeline) in FPCX, select your 3 second section using the Range Selection Tool (type r to select that tool), then with the range selected use the Retime Tool to make the selection 50% speed (Retime Editor is at the top right of the Event window - looks like a semicircular arrow). This puts a segmented Retime bar over the clip (green for 100% speed, orange for slower, blue for faster). You can then drag the handle at the right edge of the orange retime bar to change that 50% to whatever is needed. If you can't find those tools, let us know and we can post a screen capture, or, there are numerous how to videos for this on YouTube.
Apologies if I've misunderstood.

Working in Motion, it is quite easy. Select the layer the clip is on. Go to the Inspector, to the Properties tab. At the bottom, open the Timing sections. Change the Time Remap: setting to Variable Speed.
Now, if you're using a whole clip, you'll see keyframes at the start and end. If not, create keyframes for "Retiming Value" at the start and end of the clip. Be sure to have "Show Keyframes" turned on in the timeline. It is the first of three little buttons at the top right of the Timeline pane (the three are: show/hide keyframes, snapping on/off, scale to fit).
Create a "Retiming Value" keyframe where you want the slo-mo to start.
Set another keyframe on the frame you want the slo-mo to end. Drag that keyframe to the right. The more to the right you drag it, the slower the motion will be.
Catch is, that keyframe at the end may make things run in fast motion when you're done. Just delete it if you don't need it.
Here's a good video showing AE and Motion doing this side by side, and you'll see exactly how it works.

That's actually just about the most convoluted way of doing it in Motion.
If what ddixon describes doesn't do it for you (but it sounds like it should just fine), then simply go to your Motion library, to the behaviors, retiming, and apply the "Set Speed" behavior to the clip, trim it to the section of the clip you want to retime, enter the values for the speed and the length of the ramp in and out (something you CAN'T do yet in FCP) and render. Done.
You'll have to/want to extend the clip (and project) to include the original content after that (since obviously the clip will be longer) and adjust everything accordingly.
Depending on the speed you want and the type of footage, you can also try setting your frame blending options in the clip's Timing panel of the Inspector to "Optical Flow" to see if you get nicer results.

Thanks guys,
Yes, it appears that Motion 5 does a better job giving you a smooth slowmo than the FCPX, with its Optical flow and other adjustment options...
Ill post the film when its ready

Of course FCP X has optical flow also...

Motion does give you more options for detailed control of your slow motion edits, but the quality is the same in both, as both use the same render engine, Optical Flow, etc.
FCP X allows for some basic retiming.
Motion, with the technique Andie points out is easy but limited.
Motion, with the technique I showed you, along with opening the Keyframe editor, allows for almost infinite possibilities (reverse, various speed and ramps control, etc).
All depends on how deep you want to go.

Only he wasn't looking for infinite but rather just one possibility. And fiddling with curves can very quickly lead to strange behavior, confusion and frustration, just like the retiming in FCP 7. Using behaviors is the far better solution 9 out of 10 times.
You can also do reverse, freezes etc. etc. with the speed change behavior alone, too. The only limitations are one's knowledge of its uses and proper application.
