How to create a pressed letter outcome? was created by droeder
Dear board member,
I'm a little desperate, cos editing a text in PS all the time, before using it in Motion shouldn't be the solution, right?
cdn.tripwiremagazine.com/wp-content/uplo.../01/pressed-text.jpg
See here, that's what should be done within Motion. But I couldn't figure it out how to make it like this. Shadows or such always go "behind" the letters, never actually within the letters.
does anyone has a wild guess how to do this?
Help is appreciated. Thanks!

yeah, i am not so sure you can make this within motion sadly enough. there are some effects in the stylize column that can get you close...but i believe its still not what you would want. You could try outline the text, then putting that on the inside, and then maybe blurring it or gradiant...but i am pretty sure that doesn't work either.
Not to say you couldn't make this in motion without doing a lot of masking and feathering with some hard edges...but i am sure you mainly want it in motion so you can template it...not so you can mess around with it everytime. There might be a filter you can buy out there that can do this...but i am not sure where. If it were me, I would build the text in photoshop and import the psd into Motion. So, you just have to edit in PS and it will update in Motion.

Here's a Motion project that gives you the effect - there is of course no built in way of doing it but it's not that hard to achieve:
I've added an indent filter at the top to make it a bit more interesting but it's an optional extra.

No problem. Only too pleased to help. I'd never tried it before so I learnt something new as well

Yeah I remember trying this a while ago and wishing that there was an "inner-shadow" for text.

It's really not at all hard to achieve with a couple of masks as you'll see from the attached project above.
Photoshop layer styles aren't actually doing anything different, it's just you don't have to roll your own.
The weird thing about this effect though is that you have to fool your brain into thinking that you're seeing a depressed cutout rather than a raised emboss. It's a real optical illusion.
