This is the number 1 reason why I will always do motion graphics/effects work in Motion if I can.

That is a very interesting comparison. In Motion, it does show the fps in the top left corner as bouncing between 11-15 fps at some points. It definitely looks realtime at least. It was a lot of effects though!

I get pretty much the same performance out of FCP X doing very similar kinds of projects.

I have literally had to tweak one chroma-key in the past year (doing one or two CK projects a month and yes, they are not complex, usually stand ups). I just drag and drop the keyer effect and move on. That's a serious time-saver.

Since FCP X came out I have found that except for some very specialized situations (usually 3D based) I can do the majority of my work in FCP X and jump into Motion as necessary. It's a great combination.

I don't want to start a Windows vs. Mac debate here, but this is the same reason why I choose to use a Mac and continue to do so for my creative work. The software and OS are written specifically to take advantage of the hardware that Apple designs and uses. I agree it's no replacement at all, but you can't deny the power behind how the hardware and software talk to one another.

My work is almost done on Nuke now for vfx, but each time I can, I use Motion for its realtime, behaviors, replicators, and type options...
I did serious compositing and Vfx for big clients that still thinks It has been done on Flame or Nuke...
...Because I can't tell that I've been 5 times more productive with a software that costs 45€ and the result is just indistinguishable from other compositing software.

I won't tell that I can do all that Nuke or AE does with it, because there is a lot of edge-cutting technology under these software, that motion doesn't have... But a lot of things can be achieved with Motion in much less time, and with a bigger place for creativity, because of its responsiveness... You can try on the fly and go further in investigation ...

I used shake, AE, Smoke, Nuke, but no one has the responsiveness of Motion. I don't understand why the industry ... Apple, are not developing Motion or something similar to the next level. It could be the leader in vfx and motion graphic industry ... Even Flame hasn't his realtime ...

Fcpx and Motion mixed or connected, could be a killer piece of software.
Hading hi-end features wouldn't make it more difficult, but more complete, because of the way apple designed the interface, new features could fit perfectly with its philosophy.

Why nobody is developing such piece of software !?
I hope Apple is taking Motion to a new level and not just selling it has an add-on for Fcpx...

I waited so long when Apple killed Shake, to make a rumored codenamed "Penomenon" ... A "mix" between Motion an Shake... The Only thing Apple did, was to integrate his tracking and retiming technology... And later killed Color to integrate this (toy) color grading interface into Fcpx...

... Maybe I'm not very confident anymore on what Apple is doing with pro stuff !
