I am making a stick figure character in motion 5. I want to make sure I am in the right direction. I am using link parameters on position and maybe rotation.

An update. Using Match move and Point At behaviors is getting my stick figure to come to life.

Here's an easier way. Use Groups, Sub-Groups, and Anchor Points to create connected joints. It is way easier and gives you more skeletal like control. Plus it won't eat up tons of render engine horsepower. I can move the arm as a whole and it stays hinged at the shoulder. I can move just the bicep and the forearm moves with it hinged at the shoulder, or just the forearm hinged at the elbow. The sub-grouping and anchor points keep it all together. I can email you the Motion project file if you want, just drop me an email (address in my profile).

sorry it took me a while ben to reply. I ended up just keyframing splines and rotating when i could. I made it pretty painful on myself...but that gave me fast flexibility. Here is how some of it turned out.

I'm actually considering learning DAZ for these quick cartoon/animation types of work. But what you have looks great.
Now, everyone needs to fill out the Motion feedback page and request the Puppet Tool that AE has.

Something tells me you don't in fact know what the Puppet Tool is meant and used for. Certainly not for something like this. If anything then for only very MINOR character animation.
Not sure how 3D CG characters compare either.

I thought about using the puppet tool at first, but I wouldn't have been able to use it on the mouth and it would have been annoying when changing angle on character. I don't see why you couldn't use the puppet tool on the movement though. It can be animated and it can create a pretty realistic rotation of limbs if you place the pins right and mess with the quality control. But if your gonna try and school us, then tell us what you use it for.

Try e.g. moving a stick figures arms/hands from its side to above its head with the puppet tool and we'll talk "realistic". It's a liquify/morph tool with some inverse kinematic style controls. It's fine for small movement, but, again, certainly not suited for this kind of thing. Unless of course you're fine with that level of "quality". Your call.

Then I have to wonder that much more that you would suggest it for this kind of task.
