Photoshop or Illustrator for Motion 5?

Hi,
I'm new to Motion. I'm studying FCP X (level 1 exam).
Actually I have two questions.

1) In what order would you study to start making simple productions?
First FCP X (level 1). Second would you do FCP X level 2 or Motion 5?

2) I read that a lot of images are imported from apps as Photoshop and Illustrator?
What's the difference? As a next step would it be better to get into Illustrator or Photoshop?
I would like to do some animations with logo's and other graphics?

Kind regards and thanks for your advice!

E.

I don't know where these exams your talking about exist...nor do I really know what your asking in your 1st question.

as far as your 2nd question. Get to know them both! You will use both in Motion 5. Illustrator is great for logos and designing some really nice looking graphics. Photoshop is lets you import layers into Motion so you can move em around and animate them. Photoshop is a bit easier to learn, so I would start there and than move to illustrator.

The Apple authorized training and certification tests.

From L1 FCPX you can do either L2 FCPX or Motion 5, it won't matter at that point. Personal preference.

The Adobe apps are both valuable. PS for basic photo retouch and general graphics work. Illustrator for vector graphics, more advanced work.

Personally I'm using Pixelmator and Sketch instead of PS and Illus.

Well I'm sorry to tell you this but if you want to start working ASAP for a production house then you'd better start learning AVID, FCP 7 and Premiere. If its working on your own then by all means learn FCP X until you are totally comfortable then move on to Motion.

Question 2. I would concentrate on Photoshop as Motion can do a lot of vector work by itself.
Or as Ben says try Pixelmator. I use it too, can be a little frustrating at times but when you consider it's only $15 your happy to live with it.

I was very surprised how many production companies I spoke with at NAB are FCPX shops now. If you plan to get a job, learn what they use specifically. Companies are all over the map. I'm sure some will go to Lightworks. No matter what NLE you learn, there will be jobs that don't use it. Learn as you go, as you need. FCPX is an excellent place to start.

I agree, 80% of my work is still done half in Avid FCP7, the rest FCPX but they are small clients

It would be kind of you to post these shops! We would like to know.

I can see the advert now. Lightworks editor required must bring his own console ;-)
If the company provide the console I might even go for it!
I also use pixelmator as photoshop drives me nuts.
Find it very bloated and clunky for cropping images and adding text!

I am agreed. Photoshop is good for editing photos and images, using mask, channels, layers. On the other hand Illustrator is good for advanced design and graphics.
