Hello all. Recently Maxon Cinema 4D teamed up with After Effects to further integrate a 3D program with a compositing program (AE). This is a big jump for after effects artists to make much better looking graphics and further their potential in their career. It's also going to make After Effects a much more attractive application to buy when it can be sold as a 3D animation program.

I like After Effects, but I like Apple's Motion more. I would hate to see only After Effects get this love. So, If anyone cares about this as much as I do...please go to this link and say you want Cinema 4D to work with Motion with their new Cineware plugin.

Just one potential I can see with this is the GPU acceleration that Motion gives its users. You can emit a particle, move cameras and change parameters; all while your timeline is playing. AE doesn't have this. Ive watched this Cineware plugin in After Effects, and it hangs up everytime you move something. I can only think that in Motion, you can move a camera with the Cineware plugin and not get hung up...letting you work faster and possibly better.

hmmm... doesn't matter how much love I like to give Motion but I think Motion is a dying App for work like this. :(

It really hasn't been update for years.

But I do encourage people to send Maxon a message!

I disagree. I can bring Mocha tracking data in to Motion 5, it has way more support under the hood for this type of thing than ever before. Just waiting for 3rd parties to take advantage. I've not had to touch AE in a very long time. But no physical reason Maxon couldn't do it.

Oh here we go again lol
But your right you can do allot with Motion with 3rd party support where the others well you don't and that confirms my point. There hasn't been any real enhancement in Motion!

Scrubelicious. You are right on a lot of what you say, but I still think Motion has a lot of potential to compete in this field. For instance, around Cinema 4D 11, a feature was added to where you could export camera data and light data and masks to After Effects and Motion. So, the C4D definitely acknowledges Motion's existence. And I think the same could be done today with their new cineware plugin.

And After Effects has made some great strides in the past 2 versions...where Motion really hasnt. Such as the rotoscoping tool, the motion tracker, and the collaboration with Mocha.

I use both. I like motion better for making particles, motion paths, text animations and I like AE for the stuff Motion doesn't do. I ultimately would like to see Motion become a stronger program, and getting the Cineware plugin would definitely do that.

So you are comparing Motion with a Program that you haven't used for very long time?
What a war of words.

I do in fact sit with AE to keep up. I just haven't had need for it in my paid work for a long time.

I don't think this is likely to happen. As with most of us I've been watching loads of videos and reading loads of stuff over the last few days, NAB time again.

Somewhere over these few days I read, or seen, that the next version of AE will be bundled with a lite version of C4D. It seems like a massive deal has been made of the likes I don't see Apple being interested in. It makes me wonder if it's the result of Adobe trying to buy out Maxon.
