Im trying to add a border to a drop zone so when i add a photo it could look like a white bordered photo. the problem i have is when i add a Simple Border filter it only goes on the sides. I can not find a way to get the border to be on all sides.
Any ideas?
thanks, Randyc

I've just not long finished an effect template like this. I experimented with 2 different methods.

If you create a mask, with just the outline enabled and "Preserve Width" checked, then size the mask to match your drop zone it works. You then need to link things up if you want to rig/publish the scaling/rotation etc.

Another, quicker, way is to create a clone layer of the drop zone and apply the "Colorize" and the "MinMax" filters to it. Put the clone layer below the drop zone, remap both "Black" and "White" to white in the "Colorize" filter and set "MinMax" to Max with the "Radius" being used to control the border width.

The latter method removes all the need for linking things up but may have restrictions if you want independent control over rotating the photo and rotating the image within the photo.

If you want to send me your email address I'll send you the template I created using the first method. It would be good to hear some feedback on it.

Thanks for your input.
This is what I'v found.... Ok as i was writing this i tried a few more things. yesterday when i did this i was only getting the border on the sides not top and bottom. Todays a different story. I put a picture on the timeline in Motion and put a border on it and its on all 4 sides. the only thing i see is that the crop is off on these pictures. why the crop was on yesterday i do not know i think it did it automatically as i dragged a picture on the line.
now this is one of those things where you get it to work but you don't know exactly how or why.
it seems as though if your going to crop something that all the edges or borders should follow it, I think Boris FX was like that.

I'm not a fan of how Motion deals with Alpha channels in relation to the edges, bevels/borders etc.

If you want a full frame drop zone image with the border you'll be fine. But your still going to have issues if you want to scale, pan, crop or rotate it.

The later method I mentioned would give you this control if you need it, but I forgot to mention you need to do a little linking with basic position/rotation parameters. It's a little limited in relation to rotation.

The first method gives full control but a lot of thought needs put into the rigging/publishing. If that's desired anyway.
