Mysterious Media Attaching to Objects - Why?

I'm working on a FCPX transition in Motion and I randomly get the following error when I save the project.

"One or more objects that use this media will also be deleted. Are you sure you want to delete the media used for these objects?"

I didn't try to delete any media so I'm confused why this pops up.

When I go to the Media tab I see 2 new images (Image_Transition_A/B_1280x720.png)

I didn't add them to my project but they just showed up and attached themselves to an object.

When I look at the object (in this case a group) I don't see anything in relation to the images.

I can save the project, open it in a text editor and remove the images and the error message goes away.

I'd like to avoid this if possible. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any ideas how to stop it?

Thanks!

They look like the thumbnails, but you shouldn't be seeing them. You shouldn't delete them, either. As long as they're in your Media pane and not in the Layers pane, you're ok, ignore them for now.

I'd tell the warning dialog to go ahead and delete them. See what happens. They're just generic thumbnails. But why they're showing up like this is odd.

Are you seeing these in a new template, or when modifying an existing template? Which template?

Thanks for your help Ben.

Why shouldn't I delete them?

If I leave them in the Media pane every time I try to save the file I get the "One or more objects" error message and I'm not even trying to delete anything.

The error dialog is saying it's going to delete the objects that the images are attached to. I don't want to delete the objects as they're complex parts of my project.

I see this when modifying an existing template that I made from the ground up. As I finish one template, I save as in order to build on top of it.

You have two images in your Media pane that should not be visible. They are not in your Layers pane. You have no idea what object layer(s) they are attached to, if any. This is a major bug.

I'd personally hit the Delete button in the warning dialog and just see what happens. You can't save it properly anyway, correct? Duplicate it in the Finder, have a backup. I'm just curious as to what exactly will happen if you save and hit that Delete button. I'm wondering if anything will actually happen at all.

Is this a template you started before version 5.0.5?

I'd definitely send a quite clear description of the exact steps you took on the feedback page (in the Motion menu).

Those pics should exist, but you shouldn't be seeing them. That is just some sort of corrupted project file or something. Never seen it before.

Ben,

When I hit delete Motion deletes whatever objects the error message references. This isn't helpful because I need those parts. ;)

This is a template I started in 5.0.4. I have NOT upgraded to 5.0.5 yet. I want to finish this project before I update.

Is the Motion team responsive to problems like this?

I forgot to mention that my file size is getting rather large. It's almost 3 MB and nearly 60k lines of code. Is that unreasonable?
