Need help from AVC Inta to Apple Pro Res was created by axisx
Hi all,
i am a newbie to fcp and thus have this issue right now:
I have log and transfer a MXF and in the browser it shows as AVC intra 50M 1080i50
My sequence is right now set to Apple Pro Res 422.
My client wants uncompressed QT.
I exported it out as uncompressed QT self contained.
The question that i would like to ask is:
Why is this QT file about 50% smaller than the source MXF file? Any loss in resolution? Have i done anything wrong? The client is now posing me this question as i just updated him about the difference in file size. How do i explain this as client wants a full res full quality QT playable video.
I attach 2 screenshot:
The source file is 7.6MB - MXF file
The output is a Apple Pro Res HQ - 3MB
Here is the screen shot from FCP browser

You are not losing any data, what you are seeing the in FCP is not the file size of the clip. You are seeing the data rate (look above where it says 7.6)
Also if they want uncompressed for your final output your file will be huge, (not AVC-Intra or Prores) but uncompressed is a very big file do they need it in 8 bit or 10 bit. I have listed the data rates for some formats for you to see. So your 7.6 is really not that high and it is not uncompressed
HD 8-bit Uncompressed 720p60 103.17 MB/sec
HD 8-bit Uncompressed 720p24 41.33 MB/sec
HD 8-bit Uncompressed 1080i60 116.5 MB/sec
HD 8-bit Uncompressed 1080i50 93.25 MB/sec
HD 8-bit Uncompressed 1080p24 92.83 MB/sec
HD 10-bit Uncompressed 720p60 139.17 MB/sec
HD 10-bit Uncompressed 720p24 55.67 MB/sec
HD 10-bit Uncompressed 1080i60 154.67 MB/sec
HD 10-bit Uncompressed 1080i50 128.83 MB/sec
HD 10-bit Uncompressed 1080p24 123.67 MB/sec
DV and HDV 3.62 MB/sec
DV 24p 2.93 MB/sec
DVCPRO 50 7.2 MB/sec
DVCPRO 50 24p 5.68 MB/sec
DVCPRO HD 11.75 MB/sec
Hopefully that sheds some light on what you are seeing.

Why do they want uncompressed? It doesn't give any advantage, and makes a HUGE file size for no reason.
MXF is compressed, going to ProRes 422 loses nothing at all, go to uncompressed is just, well, I never understood why someone would want an uncompressed version of something that was compressed the moment it was recorded.
