Using Canon XF300 mpeg-2 MXF was created by Cruise
Hi there,
Before buying a new camcorder I'm trying out several brands and models. Have tried the Sony's EX and NX series, tried a JVC GY-HM100 and plan on trying the Canon XF300 tomorrow.
Since FCP7 doesn't support mpeg-2, I was wondering if I can use Canon's XF300 mpeg-2 footage, which is wrapped in an MXF container natively. Because I really don't have the time to convert to Prores 422.
I've tried googling but I can't seem to find a conclusive answer.
Anyone with experience over here?
Thnx!

Download the FCP plugin or use the CD. L&T imports it just fine. You can import "native" (watch out- default setting will be in ProRes, so change it)- the footage will show as XDCAM HD 422 50Mb/s. I edit native, render as ProRes.
