Is it possible to edit 48FPS in FCP7?

I'd like to edit 48FPS inside a FCP7 timeline. Codec: ProRes422HQ. Resolution: 2048x858.

So far I've had no luck and can't find any help on the web.

Does anybody here know a Terminal hack I could do to allow editing 48FPS?

At this stage FCP7 only allow 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60FPS. I'm no techy but surely there must be a way to add 48 to that list of frame rates.

This isn't the answer you wanted, but what specific reason do you have for not using FCPX?

I don't think it can be done. I've still got FCP7 on ye olde aluminium MacPro and I see no way to change the timebase of a sequence to 48fps. There's no reason you can't use 24 and just move along at glacial speed, except of course, that would suck.Bbut how are you going to display this video of yours? 48fps is not a viewing standard anywhere, is it? The Hobbitt failed miserably at HFR venues.

anyway, FCP7 was last updated in 2009 or 2010 and high frame rate playback became a thing in 2011 0r 2012. I've never seen hacks for FCP7 and I'd certainly never run any on my system if my livelihood depended on my Macs and FCP.

I'm afraid you can't work at 48 FPS in Final Cut Pro X either. There isn't a preset for it and unfortunately we can't choose a custom frame rate at the moment (only spatial resolution is customizable)

You could work in a 24 FPS timeline and conform the 48 FPS original footage to 24 FPS using "Automatic Speed" for nice slow motion. For an FCP7 workflow, you would have to use Cinema Tools to conform your footage before ingest.

But if that's not what you want and you need to deliver a 48 FPS master, you don't have many options... I know the latest version of Avid Media Composer supports it. But Premiere Pro CC and FCP 7-X don't have support for this at the moment.

Good luck!
