Problems exporting a 60 minute film full HD AND problems burning to DVD studio pro was created by yolatechno
Hi there,
I have a few questions and I hope you guys can help.
My film's been selected for a festival and they want a DVD, and also a link to a downloadable file. I'm getting lost on the export, and the burn.
First question:
Does anyone know what settings I should be exporting at in order to retain full resolution and be compatible with DVD studio pro? I've done the following...
1) Tried to export film using export => quicktime movie => and the original settings. This file exported quickly but wouldnt burn in DVD studio pro. The exported file was 15.6GB.
2) Tried to export the film as mp4 => H.264, but it said out of memory.
3) Currently trying to export film as mp4 => mp4 improved. Seems to be exporting okay, but I dont know if it will burn to the DVD.
Second question:
The festival wants a high res file to download, but free FTP sites (dropbox etc) only allow you to upload 2GBs. What's the best res I can export at whilst keeping the file size small?
Thanks for your help!

If I understand you correctly, you have an HD (1920x1080 or 1280x720) film, and are saying that they want it as a playable Video DVD (which is _not_ HD, but SD), and also available as an HD .mp4/m4v/mov file to download.
For a playable DVD, you could try Toast 's "Fit-to-DVD" feature. Commercial app that will take your 15GB file and compress it (visually) to fit on a 4.7GB single-layer DVD or a dual-layer DVD (double that size), though you have little control over quality. This is of course a shabbier alternative to setting up DVD Studio Pro properly, but can save you some time if you're pressed for time. (Not that it's quick, will still take a while depending on your computer)
As an editor, you're definitely going to need some amount of online storage for passing largish files around. It's not that expensive. I like DropBox and iCloud for trustworthiness (and pricing, but trust is #1), others like SugarSync, Google (Alphabet?) Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive.
Barring that, I think Frame.io might work as well, but you'd need to add the festival contact as a "collaborator," and they will need a login and password to download the file.
Good luck!
Edit: just noticed this was an older post. Hope you got it sorted out, and hopefully this info can help others who find this thread through a web search.
