Hi there!

Editing in FCP 7.0.3

I need to sync audio and video. My video (ProRes Proxy 24fps) has 4 silent channels because the Raw Viewer don´t let me uncheck the audio box when exporting. In the other hand I have the audiofiles which poliphonic (6 or 4 mono tracks)
When Syncing the merged clips keeps 4 silent tracks + 6 mono tracks, so How can I merge only video + 2 tracks (stereo) in order to make the edit easier?
I´ve tried to put the merged files in a timeline, delete all the audio I don´t need and the drag those clips to the browser, but if I match frame those new clips, It takes me to sync folder (10 audio channels). So at the end I have my footage triplicated (original master clip - merged clip 10 audio ch - merged clip 2 audio ch)
Any tip or advice?

Thank you so much in advance.

Hi Alberto, welcome to the forum. In FCP X that would be easy, but as I see you are working with FCP7 I would suggest you also post this in the FCP7 forum. I'm afraid I have already forgotten most of this application, so I won't be of much help here. But I'm sure someone will chime in with a solution.

Alberto,

Once you started to work with polyphonic files you will have the behavior you described and you can't change it in any way, ( It's the same in FCP X).
While it is pretty convenient to work with this kind of files they will turn out just to be the opposite when trying to delete unused tracks. Also even if you successfully did it in a sequence a reconnect can screw up your whole sequence ( again this would happen in FCP X as well).
This happens because a polyphonic is one with multiple tracks. The tracks are displayed in different tracks in FCP but they still belong to one file. Reconnecting will load the complete file with all tracks regardless what you have done inside inside FCP.

If you know that something will happen like you described you should work with monophonic files right from the beginning.

Hey Andreas,

In FCP X you change the polyphonic audio to multiple mono channels in the Inspector > Audio Channel Configuration. Then you just turn off the unwanted channels and they won't show in your timeline when you expand the audio components to edit your audio.

I wanna thank you both Andreas and Ronny for your time.

I thought there was an option to merge clips by selecting the audio tracks you want to merge (as the Avid MC does) but after a lot of tests I assume that FCP7 doesn´t have this kind of tools. My point was to save time or make my assisting job more efficient (as fast and easy as possible) and let the editor work with only a pair of audio tracks, but in a way or another at the end, when the picture is locked, the deliveries (OMF, EDL, XML) have all the info the other departments need. This time the film will be edited in FCP7. I leave the FCPX for the next one.

Muchas gracias amigos!!!

I didn't say that you can't do that. I know how to do.
The "problem" is that regardless what you switch on or off the source is the same and includes all channels.
If you come into the situation to reconnect stuff this can be become problematic.
