Quick Question..can I run FCP 7 & FCPX on Mavericks?
I am making the transition to buy a new MAC but I just want to know..I called Apple and got a strange answer..they told me to ask this question on FCP.CO so here I am..
Thanks

I have been running both some time without issue although I did notice FCP 7 lagging a bit from Snow Leopard to Lion and hence Mavericks but it is slight. It is probably also inevitable that FCP 7 which is 32 bit will run worse and worse on future platforms without getting support and updates.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I am planing on taking some classes @ FMC in NY.
But I still love to have FCP 7 in my back pocket.
Did you partition the drives?

My "employer" still uses FCP 7 in the newsroom, I have Final Cut Studio 2, which I would like to keep as legacy, I know at some point it will no longer be viable. For now I do not the best steps to install FCS 2 onto my 13inch RMBP 256GB SSD laptop.
If anyone has a dummies guide to installing legacy Final Cut onto Mavericks, would you share the best method?? Thanks so so much!!

@ MsJustine
We are talking Apple here it is set up for dummies.
Assuming you bought the software at some point…
You have a pile of DVDs one of which is marked installation disk. Stick that one in first.
I can not remember the exact order but
You will be asked what programs you want to install FCP/DVDSP/STP/Motion/Colour.
You will be asked to enter your serial numbers.
You will be asked about installing extra media e.g. for DVD Pro/Sound Track Pro or Motion.
Install only what you need. If you instal everything it takes up something like 60gb. The media takes up space rather than the programs! The installer then tells you what discs too insert depending on your decisions above...
You can ask Google for more details and just in case I would strongly advise you not to even think of asking about pirated versions of the software here. It is frowned on by pretty much every one in this forum!!!

I do not have to worry about "tricks", just stick the disks into the dvd drive, and load as I did on Tiger??

Nope, all on the same drive partition
Just keep in mind first install FCP 7 then FCP X otherwise you will need to move FCP X with Motion 5 and Compressor into a different folder in your Applications folder to be able to install FCP 7.
When you install FCP X after FCP 7 it will put all your Final Cut Studio apps in a new folder in your applications folder called Final Cut Studio.

yes do recall when I downloaded the 1st trail release of FCPX and when I installed it my FCP 7 was in a new folder with all the pro apps.
I have a official FCP 7 so I should be all set.
Thanks for all the help.
