Ripped DVD files don't play properly after importing was created by BClyde
Hello friends,
I have a ripped DVD m4v file that I want to cut into my reel. It plays fine with VLC but once imported into Final Cut Pro the motion is blurred. I have tried converting it to other formats like MOV and AVI but they also have blurred motion and problems with synch sound and the aspect ratio.
I could really use some advice. I am not the the most technically savvy person so I apologize for my ignorance. Thank you in advance for your input.

Try dropping a field, it may correct your 'blur'.

Hey Shane,
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Can you explain how to drop a field in FCP?
Much appreciated,

This sounds to me like your ripped mp4 is different frame rate from the original media. This typically happens when the disc is 23.98 and it is ripped as 29.97, or vise versa. Some ripping/transcoding software will deinterlace the footage incorrectly and it will turn into a mess. There is unfortuatnly no way to undo this, you have to rip again from the disc. Why don't you try ripping again and varying the frame rate. If that doesn't work turn all the deinterlacing, decombing, and any other "de" options to OFF.
If that doesn't work you can try Handbrake (which is free)

I actually use Mac DVD Ripper Pro for making a MP4 ($24)

Or for higher quality work DVDxDV:
