FCP7 + Decklink 4Kextreme = no live external monitor

Hi all

First time posting here

I am running FCP7 in Mavericks and want to use my 4Kextreme to monitor 1080ProRes files on a 1080 FSI monitor via 3G SDI.

The following settings only show a still frame when VIEW-EXTERNAL VIDEO-SHOW CURRENT.

VIEW-EXTERNAL VIDEO-ALL FRAMES
VIDEO PLAYBACK-BMD 1920X1080 10BIT RGB 24FPS (I HAVE TRIED EVERY OTHER POSSIBLE SETTING WITHOUT SUCCESS)

I can generate a still frame but zero live playback - any help would be gratefully received please!

Hi Shane, and welcome!


Did this card work correctly with FCP7 on Mountain Lion? If so: make sure you have downloaded and installed BM's Desktop Video 9.9.2. driver for Mavericks.

If this does not work: refresh FCPX preferences, and make sure your Canvas is set to RGB when you are playing the timeline.

There may be other issues with FCP7 on Mavericks, just telling you. Lots of people have been reporting audio playback missing in FCP7 with the Extreme card on Mavericks, and when contacting BM about this they got the following reply:

"Thank you for contacting us. Final Cut Pro 7 is no longer supported on OSX's after 10.7+. If you do a web search you'll see people having issues across the board, not only w/ Blackmagic devices.

I'd recommend outputting from Final Cut Pro X or Media Express.

I've only ever had the card under Mavericks. 9.9.2 did the trick without audio issues, and Resolve still works also despite having rolled back from DeskVid10 so I have a stable setup now for editing and coloring - happy days!

Ideally I'd like to use FCPX and work directly with my R3Ds but I've tried to tackle it twice now and I keep bouncing off. They've approached the edit from an entirely new concept and this old brain is stuck in the old ways.. It doesn't like anamorphic for a start, which is pretty much all I shoot.
