Hi all,

I have a major problem with FCP 7 that I hope someone would be kind enough to shed some light on.

Here is my scenario:
I am trying to export footage from a video shoot where I want to preserve the transparency of the background for continuing on to After Effects, the goal is to combine a silhouette of a person with other effects done in AE.
Each take is about 04:20 long (a music video) and I have about 5 takes, or files if you will, that I want to do this with.
The raw footage was shot with a Canon T2i DSLR and have been converted to ProRes 422 for FCP editing. Once in FCP I have synced up all takes and keyed out the silhouette and everything looks good and ready to go. When exporting I use the 'Export Quicktime' option and choose the ProRes 4444+ (with alpha).

Here is where I run into problems:
FCP only exports about 03:26 of the files, about 1 minute is missing in every single file.

Steps taken so far:
  • I have cleared the In and Out points, and set them as well. No difference.
  • I moved the files to later in the sequence and set the In and Out point.
  • I changed the sequence setting to ProRes 4444+ and pre-rendered before exporting.
  • I tried the Animation codec as an alternative.
  • I checked that the 'Limit Export File Size' is unchecked.
  • I did a 'Safe Boot' and repaired disk permissions.

I am going absolutely crazy here, will someone please help me with some thoughts on what might be going on?

Thanks a million in advance,
Patrick

Haven't touched v.7 in over a year now, but try this. In that Sequence, "Select All", create a new Sequence, "Paste", see if that helps.

Thanks for your tip Ben. Unfortunately that did not work either. I somehow have a feeling it has something to do with the data that is being exported… like it is reaching a limit or something. I have "No Limit" set in the export settings, but somehow it feels it has something to do with that anyway. That is the only logical explanation I can think of since all the file stops exactly at 03:26.

I will keep investigating.

Have you tried if exporting without audio works?

Thanks for your tip Ronny. I just tried that and it did not work either, still stops at the same time as before.

OK, I just found a solution!

Under "System Settings" I checked the box that says "Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size to" and I set the value to higher than I know I would ever need, something like 6000 MB. And yep, now it works! Exporting full sequence with no problem.

Thanks for your thoughts and inputs guys. I am so glad I was able to fix this.

I hope this will help anyone who is experience a similar problem in the future.
