When i drag a copy of fcp7 onto a folder my laptop, so that it is not on the root level in the apps folder (fcpx is) running 10.9.3, and try to open it, get an error message... Is there something else i need to create in order for it to work? Thanks.

From what I remember, FCP 7 needs to be inside of the Applications folder to function properly. I don't think it can be moved around like more modern apps can.
