FCP 7 data off line or data lost?

I am running Final Cut 7.03 on a MacBook Pro. I have had weeks of difficulties since downloading Mavericks. Apple support have been very helpful but in the process of "fixing" the problem, all of my FCP project files are now reportedly "offline". I can see the file names but they are not active. I think that by copying the contents of my hard drive back and forth from Time machine the files have lost whatever it takes for FCP to find them. If I use the "reconnect to media" function, and search all of my hard drives it comes up blank. However the file names are all where I put them but there is supposedly nothing in them (the file names are pale great not black). BUT - if I open a project the media is visible in the time line and although it says "media offline" It still takes an hour or so the render a project so surely there is something there to render? I hope this makes sense!? I would be very grateful for any advise as to how I can re-locate my files.

Many folks are reporting parts of FCP 7 broken in Mavericks. Some folks are having no issues at all. When using the relink media function, there's a checkbox to un-check. I think it said something like "match file names". I used to find turning that off often helped.

Thank you for your suggestion BenB. I don't seem to have that option, or anything similar. It seems likely that FCP can't find the thumb nail address for any of the files. Perhaps there is a way to "restore" the thumb nail files in the Library? I am clutching at straws here, but ever hopeful!

This is a bit disappointing. With one exception, (thank you BenB) I seem to be talking to myself. This is not a very good sign for a web site "aiming to be the number one Final Cut resource on the net". Has anyone read this post? Is there anyone out there? Am I in the wrong forum? I am new to this site, can someone please advise me? Sorry to sound so grumpy but this is urgent. :(

Since my first post, I have completely re-built the project from the original camera and audio files. I stored it on a new hard drive. Most of it is now reputedly Offline and, though I can see the files, they will not launch or connect to my FCP project. Same as before.

I'm confused in your last post as to whether you clips are available in the timeline but are reported as offline. Sometimes, in the process of reconnecting offline media the Thumbnail cache gets corrupted.
Try this:
Quit FCP
Go to User>Documents>Final Cut Pro Documents> Thumbnail Cache Files.
Delete the two files in that folder and relaunch FCP.
FCP will generate new thumbnails

PS These forums understandably go quiet over the Xmas period!
