Hi all - I am taking a strange journey back into the realm of FCP7 and HDV after 2 years with FCPX. I'll admit I'm feeling rusty. However I have a client's HDR-FX7 camera and am trying to capture HDV material and FCP7 refuses to see a connected camera. It's not the output settings on the camera - they are set to iLink, not down-converting to DV. It's not the cable, as iMove and Quicktime X can see the footage. I'm running the easy setup HDV 108050i which is what the footage is. Yet I keep getting a "No camera detected" error in the L&C window. I have tried different combinations on starting FCP7 without the camera on, with it on, with footage already running etc. I have restarted the Mac and the Camera. Can anyone suggest what I might be differently?

If you have FCPX why not just capture in X and then import the files into FCP7 from the original media folder? I remember HDV capture in FCP7 to be touchy and it requires all the settings to be right and a lot of restarting the program. Why does it have to be captured in 7?

The client doesn't use FCPX. I am working on his machine for this, setting him up to do the assembly edit.

Doesn't matter what NLE you use to capture. Its going to be a QT file anyway. Just capture, then import those files into FCP7.

Thanks for the responses. These are good workarounds but does anyone have any insight as to the cause of the issue itself?

Use FCP X or iMovie or something that actually works.
Then import those files into FCP 7.
But, FCP 7 really should recognize this camera. Be sure your L&C settings match up correctly. I remember a wedding videographer I used to know using this camera and FCP 7 at one time. Odd...

All settings are definitely correct on the FCP end as well as the camera side. Thanks for the Creative COW link moviesim - that was interesting but unfortunately none of the techniques I tried that worked for others worked for me.
