Sound from external recorder doesn't sync

Sound from external recorder doesn't sync was created by akesson
In a 30 minute interview recorded with both sound in the camera and on an external recorder (zoom h2n), the sound from the h2n differs about a second after 30minutes of film. Same sample rate (48kHz).
What could cause this? Can I solve it in fc 7?

Does it start in sync and then drifts out of sync?
Also did you do a "remove silent channels" on the audio before syncing? If not give that a try.
Btw. Fcp7 can only sync on timecode for multicam clips. Is no use to you.

One of the reasons I despise being stuck in FCP7 hell at the moment while working on multiple projects that are all multicam and have external audio without jammed timecode. Yes, I know the workaround with exported clips that have the audio synced before multiclipping, but I'm just complaining in a random thread haha

Sync the clips in X, export as a ProRes file, take that into 7.

I used plural eyes back in the FCP7 days. Works great! I think there is a 30 day demo here:

Pluraleyes is great, just make sure your number of audio tracks is consistent or else you'll get an an "inconsistent audio properties error". Pluraleyes likes all your clips to have the same number of audio tracks. So let's say you have two video clips with two audio tracks and two video clips with four audio tracks. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but in the case that it doesn't work I create separate sequences for all the clips that have the same number of audio tracks and then sync afterwards. You shouldn't have any problem using FCPX for sync as mentioned above

Great points about the audio tracks. One small "gotcha" in FCPX if you have multiple audio recorders that you are syncing with one video, sync the video and audio (be sure to define different cameras or angles for each audio source) by creating a Multicam Clip rather than a Syncronized clip.
If this doesn't make sense, just ask we'll explain it.
