FCP 7.0.3 on Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.5. Does it work? was created by sbw2013
Forgive me if this has been answered before, I couldn't find a thread. I'm a newbie!
At the moment I'm running OS 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro and FCP 7.0.3 and everything is just fine. However I would like to try out DaVinci Resolve 9 and that needs at least OSX 10.7.5. I can upgrade to OSX 10.8.5 on the app store, I just really need to know if FCP is still going to work? Will I have to uninstall / reinstall anything else? Any other known issues from you folks out here?
Any help and guidance greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you install 10.8.5 over 10.6.8 FCP7 will still work. I did this on one machine and didn't have to re-install FCP. I haven't used FCP7 for a while now, so I cannot guarantee that every third party FCP plugin you have will still work as expected. So you may have to update some plugins to their latest versions, but that's often the case when you update your OS.

Many thanks for the reply Ronny. I installed Mountain Lion last night and so far so good. Everything seems to work ok.

7 even runs on Mavericks. Again, didn't do anything too extensive, but it runs ok.

Works good in 10.8.5, but I encountered problems in animating photos with high resolution (600dpi & above).
My advise is to install/keep a 10.6.8 partition

Just to pile on here, I went from 10.6.8 to 10.8.5 on both Mac Pro and Macbook Pro (Early 2008). FCS 3 was the least of my worries. Even LiveText still works. I have no 3rd party plugins. There's no question that the MBP startup is a dog performance wise. YMMV.
