- write music, perform, write short stories and screenplays, will eventually move onto film directing/editing when I'm too old for a band

feature film editing.. nesting?! seems to SUCK! was created by colfaxrev
I've learned the hard way, that nesting is apparently very very very bad for feature film work.
I have separate sequences, 1 for every scene. i duplicate and date each edit for each scene so if the director liked the edit yesterday I can just open it up and go back to that point
that part is great! and has been necessary on this project, but!
in my master sequence that is all the scene sequences put together (the entire film), then certain things become very difficult
like music bridging two scenes. i have to preview it in each scene sequence separately and then apply it the same way in master timeline. that workflow is literally retarded.
the other downside is that EDL/XML export is useless with nested sequences.
I guess I'm going to change my workflow to be 1 single sequence for the entire film, and markers for each scene instead of sequences for each scene... but now comes the task of copy pasting every nested scene into the master sequence without messing up the timing and not messing up how audio overlapped...
that will probably take me an entire day hahah DAMN!!!!!!!!!
*sighhhhhhhh*

[strike]When you add all your sequences to the master timeline as a new project, select all, right click and break apart clip items, so the "nesting" (aka Compound Clips) will disappear and you can fix you music easily.
Hope it helps.[/strike]
Sorry, I thought you were talking about FCPx, my mistake!

that is good to know about FCPX though! I used it for a sizzle reel and I actually liked it even though there was a lot of shit talking about it. Trim was legit!
