Hi all,
I know this question has been asked in forums before but I still can't find an answer.
I'm trying to install a copy disc of FCP 7 on my new macbook pro running mountain lion and it quits unexpectedly after I've entered the key and selected fcp installation (it quits while it says it's installing fcp). Would a clean install work in this case, even with a copy?
Is it possible to 'downgrade' to snow leopard even if my macbook is new and came with mountain lion?
thanks.

Knowing that DVDs are eventually going to be phased out, I made disk clones of all my FCP7 install disks and put them on a Firewire hard drive.
Now, if I have to install FCP7, I can do it from the hard drive instead of the DVD drive and it goes way faster. It also means you don't have to swap disks around.
I've done this with with Mountain Lion installed first (on my Mac Pro) and it worked flawlessly.
This might be more stable than using the DVD drive. Just make sure you have ISO's that mimic DVD volumes and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I'm overseas without the original FCP discs / system so I think my only option is to use the disc. To be honest, I'm not a tech expert and don't completely understand that method but it sounds like it wouldn't work with a copy disc and a new mac that's never had fcp on it.
thanks again.
