Using FCP 7 - do I need a converter for this process or can FCP already do this? In Log Transfer there are 3 options in Preferences - Mpeg2 SD to ProRes 422; AVCHD to ProRes 422 and P2 AVC-Intra to Native... there is no option to select ProRes 422.

I'm bringing in 2 different sources into the Project - P2 beling one and SD footage that automatically comes in as ProRes 422 @ 1920x1080.

My P2 footage is automatically coming in as DVCProHD @ 960x720.

Want all footage to be ProRes422 @ 1920x1080. What's the best way to accomplish this?

Thx,

Dan

P2 is native DVCPRO-HD, in an MXF wrapper.

What specific camera?

We have been shooting P2 for years from an HVX200 and an HPX170. We always used DVPRO-HD in Log & Transfer. No reason to transcode to ProRes, really.

If it is coming in as 720 HD, that is how you natively shot it. If you want to blow it up, you'll have to place it into a 1080 Sequence and enlarge it to fit the frame.

Log & Transfer does not change the frame size or frame rate (outside of pulldown removal).

You should be setting the "P2 Plugin" settings in the Preferences. Native is DVCPRO-HD, a super nice codec to edit with. You should also see every flavor of ProRes listed.

Just to add some info. the 960 x 720 is the unexpanded frame size. The luma grid is expanded upon playback using a pixel shift technology which gives you 1280 x 720 in FCP7. In FCPX, however, I noticed that this will not automatically happen and you need to change the project size to 1280 x 720, otherwise the final render will output exactly at 960 x 720.

You are asking about 1080 anyway, so Ben's answer of making it FIT the frame is correct. Just thought I would point out the frame size info.
