Compound Clip from clip in Timeline

I cut (blade tool) a section of a clip in the Storyline which was itself a part of a Synced clip. I then made the section of the clip a Compound Clip. I have a smart collection in the Browser dedicated to Compound Clips and it hasn't showed up in that collection.

Sounds like the compound clip is in the project not in the event.

Toms' corrects. You said "Storyline", which is Timeline, which is not going to reflect in the Browser. Once you drop any clip from the Browser into a Project Timeline or Compound Clip Timeline, that clip becomes a "copy" of the original, and has nothing to do with the original. Just like in legacy FCP.

So best practice would be just to Favourite the play range then for later use. Pity you can't just make the compound clip and drag back into the Browser.

I create my CC's in the Browser to start with.

But, what exactly are you doing? What clips are going into a CC in the Timeline that you'd want back in the Browser? Maybe someone has a better workflow if we had the scoop.

Not sure why you'd have a smart collection of compound clips, assuming each compound clip is unique and independent. What is the point of collecting every compound clip you have? Maybe I am misunderstanding what you're doing.

I create commonly used compound clips in the event browser, open them in the timeline so I can add titles and transitions and then keep them in an accessible event. I do this for credit screens and slates that are identical and used time and time again for a particular service.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

If I'm doing a long production, I make CC's in the Browser such as: Scene 1, Scene 2, Scene 3, etc. Then assemble them all into a single Project when done for output.

I was just playing around with workflow options. As I'm getting deeper into FCPX I'm just looking at different ways of working because as we know there are always various ways of doing things and just looking at the options.

DG I was looking bat putting the Compound clips in a smart collection just purely for organisation purposes to have them on hand in the Browser art the click of a folder.

So Ben you just create the CC in the Browser, name it accordingly then assemble clips inside it when its opened in the Timeline so then it is more accessible in terms of organising because it started life in the Browser?
I was just doing it the wrong way round I was making CC in the Timeline from existing clips ( different scenes of the project) then trying to organise them in the Browser (which I couldn't) I know to do it the right way round now!

There's no reason why you couldn't create a compound clip in the browser and cut paste the c c from your project in to it.
