Fired up FCP X this morning to get some work in on a project and was met with an unexpected sight: my RAID didn't show up. This was very odd as the disk image I use to house my events, media and projects showed up and it was stored on the RAID.

For half a moment I was afraid that the 'time machine' bug was the cause before I reminded myself that my RAID has never been used for time machine. I hadn't installed or upgraded any software since last night when I shut everything down so I was at a loss as to what was causing this behavior.

After doing some troubleshooting, a little cursing and some investigative work, I figured it out: I moved a folder from an AVCHD camera to the root of the RAID last night. FCP X assumed that the entire drive was a camera and took it offline as a storage drive.

Once I popped the AVCHD folder into a disk image I created for it and deleted the original from the root of my RAID, everything popped up fine without an issue. I'm able to import the footage from the disk image with no problems.

Hope this helps some of you avoid a few minutes of frustration in the future.

Good to know; thanks for posting the solution.

I also heard here was an issue of having photos on the root of the drive whereby FCPX assumed it is a stills camera.

Woa! Well done for keeping a cool head. What a trap for young players.
