I have been using the beta trial version with FCPX for some time with great results. Today Neat Video sent out an email saying that Neat Video v3.2 for FCP has been released with support for FCPX and other improvements.

Happy noise free days!

Yeah I just saw the news here, I thought they were going to iron out the issues before release.
Also I didn't know you can add filter to clips in the Event Browser or are they talking about clips in a Compound Clip that is then located in the Event Browser??

On another note, it's definitely worth mentioning that their support is outstanding. I thought I had footage lost from a camera used in the back of a stage. The stage was not well lit and with an overall red light from the stage lights. With help from Neat video I managed to save that footage. However, it's very processor intensive, so I suggest you use it and tweak it, if necessary, on a short representative clip. Then, disable the plug-in until you can leave your machine for hours and have Neat Video do its thing for the full length of the clip.

I'm using FCPX on an i7 iMac with 16 GB RAM with the best GPU you could buy at the time from Apple store (ATI HD 4820).

Maybe someone has some more work flow experience when it comes to successful ways as to when to apply processor intensive plug-ins. I tried to make all editing first and at the very end apply Neat Video.

Well, I recently had over 3 hours (3 cameras) of footage, shot in very dim environment, that needed cleaning.
I had already performed a 3 camera multiclip and decided that all of the footage (especially one camera) needed cleaning.
For me, the best way was to take each angle and apply the Neat filter to each. I created an empty Compound Clip in the Event Browser for each clip, and copy and pasted the clips form the MultiClip to the selected Compound Clip. Then rendered each angle out as a separate clean clip.
I'm on an older This took 2.8 Quad Core MacPro, so this took a while for each clip (17-24 hours for each clip).

Next, in the multiclip I swapped out the original clips for the clean clips. This worked flawlessly, as all of my edits switched over to the clean clips. BTW, I then removed the old clips from my Event, as they're not needed anymore.

All in all it took 3-4 days to get he clean footage. A lot of time, but since I know that I would need ALL of this footage in some way, in the end it's was much faster to perform this at the beginning of my project, rather than at the end when I am rendering out my final file. Also, since I now have a clean clip to work with, I can CC and grade as need without the worry of the massive render time needed to perform that and the Neat filter cleaning.

In most cases I would only apply this to selected clips that needed it.
But the filter really does work fantastic. :)

Is this plugin better than the results you get with DeNoiser II?

Also have a look at the DeNoiser in the new Tiffen DFX film and Video bundle. I tried it last night on a short nighttime clip of a basketball match and was pretty surprised how well it cleaned it up (however at the expense of softening the clip substantially).

You can try this free in the trial mode (or pay $599 US for the complete plugin package).

Looking at the issues and speed Neat has I would suggest DeNoiser II (quality is awesome)

I'm surprised you have DeNoiser 2 working with FCPX? Have you got a beta version?

Seriously; I think the wait is over. This is as good a noise reduction tool as we are going to get anytime soon.

I don't find that I have to wait unreasonably long times to deal with footage (short clips for music videos are done in under a minute or so - I'm using a MacBookPro with 8gb ram).

Anyway, I put my money where my mouth is and purchased a full license today.

Vlad (the owner I guess) is a very helpful, and I can see that they offer personalized help and support to customers (something that might be lost with larger companies). Their company only produces 2 products, and both of them deal with image noise reduction. They are fully focussed on this task (again where larger companies with many products have to spread their creativity to other tasks).

I would recommend that anyone interested should try the demo.

Anyhow, it all a moot point at the moment. If anyone needs professional noise reduction in FCPX the only solution under $100 is Neat Video.

Yeah I've got DeNoiser II for AE but would rather keep everything in FCPX.

Anyone care to post a short before & after of the Neat plugin I would just like to see how much blur it puts into the image. It is all well seeing an example of a frame grab but seeing a clip with motion in it will be the real test.

simonpwood you might be right but we already have Denoiser II which works pretty good for the footage we have received in the past.

Just not sure if I want to jump right into Neat with workarounds... but I will look into there upgrade policy.

Yes, I understand that if you have AE then DeNoiser already takes care of business. :)

I'm really talking about users such as myself that don't have Adobe AE, and only work with FCPX and Motion 5.
