Rename project file was created by Marc Lucas
Are you able to rename the FCPX project file or does it have to stay as CurrentVersion.fcpproject? I'm meaning the way that you can individually rename FCP6-7 project files.

You can rename a project, which is attached to the folder that holds the project content. The database called Currentversion.fcpproject cannot be renamed.

Thats what I suspected.
The reason I asked is because I have recently sent CurrentVersion.fcpproject file to a fellow editor who was able top open the project that we were simultaneously working on. I take it that the aforementioned file has to be in a project folder to be able to link to the media of the project that it came from?

That's right. Theoretically you should be able to zip the Currentversion file and upload it. I don't know how much this has been tested.

Yes it works seamlessly. Just a pain having to replace the file everytime with the old one would be better if you could incrementally save version files like in Legacy FCP but as long as it works:-)

You can. Just right-click the database file for the project, select Compress "CurrentVersion.fcpproject", and name the Zip file whatever you want. You've just frozen your project in time.
Name the Zip file with the date and time you zipped it, so you remember when you did it. It doesn't rename the original file at all. And your original file is untouched, still there.
I keep begging Philip Hodgetts to add this function to Event Manager X.

If enough of us bug Philip, I bet they'll add it to Event Manager X.

I'm on it, would be even easier if Apple just implemented it so that you could save incrementally though.

Well... the FCP X dev team has decided that simply right-clicking on a project in the project library, and making a copy (without events or renders) is "versioning". Go figure. I mean, it works, but can clog up your library. Even if you make a folder to keep all the versions in, I guess that could work.

$60 or $5 or free, either way, it's all in how much you need the features. Pro Versioner is nice, though.

Just to update this thread. When I have shared the CurrentVersion.fcpproject with someone they can place the file in their Projects folder and open/relink media all OK.
Now following Ben's advice to zip the file, which would then enable to save incremental versions, I have found that after zipping the file and my friend opening it the file has changed to a file called CurrentVersion.fcpevent. When trying to open the file FCPX says it is not recognisable. Not sure whats going on here.

You zipped up the Event database, not the Project database. I use the method all the time and I've never had issues. This doesn't work with the Event database file, as you'd need to include all the media, etc.
