No, that's called Morphing, and it's very specialized. Motion can do it really easy with stills. There are apps that do nothing but morphing. AE has a morph function I think. But no, FCP X won't do this. It's a rotoscoping process outside the realm of an NLE alone.

It can be done in AE; there is a very popular tutorial on VideoCopilot called the demon face warp that explains the fundamentals that would be required for face morphing.

Just google 'Andrew Kramer Demon Face Warp' and you will find a 30 minute tutorial on the subject.

Ahhh the good old Morph effect!
There is a plugin for Apple Motion from www.chv-plugins.com/cms/Fx-Script/Morph-...php?navanchor=101001 ]CHV Electronics (I don't find the quality comparable with the bigger boys).

One function that I am really missing especially when Apple had the technology from Apple Shake. :S

Well, the problem is that the code Shake was written in got very, very outdated and was simply not going to keep up. Motion is a very different animal. So you can't simply copy and paste code from one to the other. I'd like to see more refined rotosoping tools, which would allow for this sort of thing. Basically what AE has over Motion is that, more refined rotoscoping tools.

...and a better array of plugin's in more specialised areas.

That gap has been closing. More and more are developing for Motion all the time. Remember, AE was out a decade before Motion, but the gap is closing quickly.

I guess. I just wish that Motion was more snappier and responsive. It still feels like a tank sometimes slowly plodding along thats my only problem with it.

AE is worse with playback and render speeds. Thank goodness for RAM Previews and powerful GPUs. Done with that.

Well there isn't any realtime playback with AE it is all RAM preview based so the same as Motion in respect of RAM previews. All down to how much RAM you have in your system. I really don't mind AE

I also wouldn't say After Effects is slower... the beauty it where ever the playhead is located than frame is rendered. I wish we had this function in Motion sometimes... and the Morph tool- :)

No not slower at all. One of my other big problems with Motion is not being able to zoom In & Out whilst in the timeline via key command is really slows things down.

Motion isn't a patch on Ae yet, but where it excels it really excels. For me the bottom line is that you can pretty much be sure to hit a brief with either tool set, the results will be different but the brief can be hit all the same.

The way effects work (or don't work) with alpha channels in Motion is often a pain, but when it comes down to the individual tools available I do prefer Motions 3D operation, especially with particles and camera behaviours. I love behaviours and rarely touch a keyframe any more, when I first looked into Motion I seen this as an excellent alternative to expressions.

Obviously the rigging and publishing capabilities are phenomenal, I've often wondered if Ae/Premiere will ever see that feature.

The only thing I ever missed in Motion is AE's Rotobrush, but I'm not as deep in the industry as you guys are.

I fill out the Motion feedback page often about rotoscope tools.

Once you get how Groups handle alpha, that's not a big deal.

I have been requesting Rotobrush since version 3...

You are saying we are not seeing the Morph "node" in Motion cause the code from Shake is outdated?
But we do have the outdated tracker, "proxy" and optical flow technology from Shake?
hmmm outdated or not Shake is still a faster monster then Motion.

But I think we are going of topic here.

Yes, the few Shake features that were re-written in new code. I guess someone at Apple didn't feel like re-writing all of the tools.

Compare Color to the color board in X, or DVDSP to the Share menu.
