Animation- HUGE file size export- why?!

Hi all,

I am currently working on a short animation using keyframes and the plug-in Glass shelf 3D effect. I so far have just 45 seconds, the pngs I have imported are relatively small and there are no HD video clips.

Yet when I just tried to export the project so far, in the smallest option (H.264), the estimated size is over 200GB!! The total film will be at least 4 mins and at this rate would take days to save out.

Any ideas as to why it is so huge?!

Many thanks,

Sophie

What are your timeline settings?
How exactly are you going to H.264?

When I go to Share- Export Media I chose the option H.264 in the Video Codec drop down box as this is the smallest I could export it, but that said Estimated size 200GB! Haven't had this problem in any other projects recently.

I think it must be something to do with the pngs I imported. Using final cut pro X and am having trouble finding where to change settings- do you think i'll have to start again? Really don't have time to :(

What exactly did you figure out? It would help others to know.

Thanks!

Well, its kind of stupid but not actually my fault...somehow 22 hours of blank film had been added onto the end, I did not do this- I dont know if there is a quick key or something but i have no idea how it got there! Don't see the point of it either- leaving a blank clip when you delete one...and a a blank clip that you can't delete?! I just put the duration to 0.

I must say, I miss FCP 7!!

Gap Clips can be deleted very easily.
Delete ripple deletes,
Shift-Delete does a lift delete, leaving a gap clip.
Gap clips help me work with blank spaces faster and easier.

If you glance at the bottom of your FCP X window, it will give you the timeline total duration at all times. If you glance down there, you know if there's extra stuff in the timeline or not.

Also, always do a Shift-Z just like in legacy versions to make the timeline fit to window. If it doesn't fit like you expect it to, there's some extra stuff out there.

This same situation happens often in 7, too. Orphan clips only a few frames long get left behind way down a timeline. At least now, you can see the Gap Clip clearly, glance at the duration at the bottom of the screen, it's pretty hard to miss.

You couldn't pay me enough to go back to 7. To clunky, so slow.
