Emergency Transition Tip

Here's a wee tip that just saved in an emergency when there was no handle on the end of a clip and shortening it wasn't an option but a transition was needed.
Select a range around the last, or first if relevant, frame of the clip and hit ⇧H to apply a retime hold frame and drag it out to the necessary length. Now if you trim the clip back to where it was the handle is available in its retimed state. This can be seen in the precision editor and a transition can be applied.
It's not going to work as well with some shots or transitions, but it can be useful. Retiming the later part of the clip to perhaps ramp to 0% may even work better on some clips, perhaps if there is a handle but not enough.

Nice tip, Dave...thanks. I have also made a still frame on occasion and appended it to the end of a clip to give me the needed handle.
