Hello All!

I'm looking at the Intensity Shuttle, if/when I get a new Mac with TB. That's ThunderBolt of course, it's not a Badger! I don't need SDI or balanced audio, so for £186 it seems the perfect solution... When it's start shipping!

Anyone else using a low cost output solution yet?

Duncan.

A bit pricey though isn't it? $250 an output only device.

Not really. I just paid $350 for a BlackMagic Intensity Extreme which doesn't have SDI. But it does work with Resolve.

If someone was looking for a HQ monitoring solution, $250 is pretty good.

BTW, I'm very happy with the performance of my Intensity Extreme. Plays beautify from FCPX (and FCP7). Thought for a moment I was having performance issues, but realized I needed to check the "High Quality" box in preferences.

But for external monitoring you will only need output; in which case this works out cheaper than the Intensity shuttle.

Unless you're looking for an external monitoring device and an input device...

I was only thinking £160 for the T-Tap vs £186 for the Shuttle, It's worth spending £30 more for an input too in case you need it. That's how I think anyway.

Of course the AJA unit looks solid, and they've always had a great relationship with Apple.
I still have my original AJA IO, which I was told was the first one in the UK. Perhaps that makes it worth more if I sell it on ebay? ;-)

Input is something I haven't need in over 7 years.

I suppose I could have paid less, but I specifically went with a Blackmagic Thunderbolt box for both hardware and compatibility reasons- I'm planning on Resolve becoming a larger part of my workflow in combination with FCPX.

Anyone want to buy an MX02 Mini?

Just came back from NAB and think I'm going to go with the Intensity Shuttle Extreme. Blackmagic said it's the perfect solution for HDMI out and since I don't have anything with SDI (nor do any work for broadcast television... yet), it fits the budget. Very impressed with Blackmagic's products this year.

Do you mean the Intensity Shuttle, or the Intensity Extreme?

Ah yes - that's what I meant! And I'm using a ASUS LED monitor with it until I can afford something a little more accurate. I've researched and found the Asus PA238Q 23-Inch LED Monitor to be a pretty good solution.

In reading up on the various offerings from Blackmagic, I noticed that the Intensity models output a 4:2:2 YUV signal, as opposed to the RGB from the UltraStudio's.

I'm planning on doing some grading in Davinci using a FCPX workflow. As far as I understand, both programs grade in RGB space. Am I losing something in the conversion to YUV? I believe the monitor supports sRGB.

As we're quite a few months down the line I still appreciate people inout again on this.
I'm waiting for the new iMacs and then getting a new TB playback device.

It looks like the Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt is actually cheaper than the T-Tap now.
Can any owners confirm it is FCPX compatible as BM haven't updated there site information in some time...
