Sony ZU1 Not Recognized In FCPX - Whats Wrong?

HDV shouldn't give any problem in FCP X. I'm capturing (H)DV via a small Sony deck which is basically a Z1 without sensor and lens.

Image quality? Don't forget how old the Z1 is meanwhile. That's day and night compared to modern cameras. Even my HV30 gets better quality than my Sony A1... and my XF100 gives better quality than and so on. ;)

So I've been running into the same problem, but with one major difference. I was able to get my Z1U to capture footage in FCPX on my computer before; I can even go onto the clip I captured earlier and, through FCPX, view footage details that connect it to my HDV Z1U. Now it doesn't even recognize it.

MacPro running Mountain Lion. Using the cable I knew worked earlier; 4pin-9pin FW.

The only change I did to my computer (though it doesn't make sense why something would change) was I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.

I've double-checked that I've downloaded all additional content but nothing comes up.

Is this perhaps a clue?

That's interesting that you were able to capture in FCPX using the Z1 prior to upgrading to Lion. I don't have my Z1 any more so I can't test it for ya. Sounds like Snow Leopard had something that was assisting the Z1 in FCPX?

Yea, I'm wondering if there was a codec hidden somewhere in either system/library or elsewhere. I wouldn't see why the OS would change this, though. The reason I am (marginally) making a connection is because users of MPEG Streamclip were no longer able to use MPEG2 components when switching to Lion/Mountain Lion. I know that is a different program and, therefore, apples and oranges, but the connection might reside in quicktime? The way to fix the MPEG Streamclip problem is to copy components from a snowleopard computer and install them on the Lion/MountainLion install. Does this perhaps ring a bell?

Not sure what your problem is but you can still install Quicktime in Mountain Lion. Quicktime 7 Pro will reside nicely alongside the ML AV Foundation version of Quicktime.

The problem isn't the MPEG-2 components. It's the installer. There is a workaround for this on the Square 5 web site.

I know this doesn't have to do with MPEG components; I was just drawing out the fact that an OS update DID affect another program because of the way library items were located (or if they even existed.)

Was the workaround you were mentioning for capturing footage with the Z1U?
