All,

Just being doing some tests here and I glad to say that EVS streams work with FCPX. I'm quite surprised as quite honestly the EVS way of writing out files for FCP is a bodge. Don't get me started, but with FCP7 their solution only half works. When it hasn't locked up that is.

I'm not using a growing stream as I'd have to be on shared storage, this is a finished copy with a reference file and the video and audio components. It's only SD IMX50 but I cant see why HD ProRes422 wouldn't work.

If there was an interface between EVS and a storage system using Thunderbolt then we would have a hell of a live editing system!!!!

This is very interesting. I really think FCP X could be a great tool for editing streams from EVS. We did a few tests at work, and it reads growing streams quite well. It seemed to get a little caught up in generation of thumbnail previews, but re-opening the application got rid of the constant thumbnail preview generation.

Have you done any more tests on this workflow?

What kind of issues do you have in FCP 7 compared to FCP X?

I haven't tested any growing streams with FCPX as yet but sure am glad to read all this. The throughput of the Promise Pegasus Thbolt RAID we have is really fast and I agree FCPX could be a perfect match with EVS and Thunderbolt in a live stream editing configuration.

Seeing how tight X is already integrated with Motion 5; how any FCPX effect, transition, title a.s.o. actually IS a Motion project and how X and Motion share the same impressive floating point linear light render engine, I could already imagine how Motion 5 would perfectly integrate in this live editing system as well. Wake up Ronny, you are drooling! ;)
