Just installed, and now my MP won't boot at all. Kernal Panic during boot process. It seems AJA is not able to cope with FCPX as wall as BM or Matrox. May be time for me to switch brands. Shame as they sponsor my local FCPUG. And can't reach support to find out how to remove the driver. Can NOT boot MP running Lion for nothing.

I had the same thing happen...do a safe boot and then use the AJA uninstall. Last I saw on their site, there was a red text warning to say don't download it! I downloaded the NN version which does not have the Mac Interface and it runs fine.
However, I found that because I have a Nvidia Cuda card, FCP X is spluttering badly, even worse after the 04 update. Switching to an iMac. Guess I will keep the Macpro for Premier only

Wee, today, Saturday, when support is closed, they reported it for download and removed the warning. Really, the Sat before NAB? AJA is losing their touch.

I've not done a safe boot ever on a Mac. Can't remember the keystone hold. But I'm looking it up now. I had this problem with the 10.0.3 version of the driver, too. What's wrong with AJA they can't keep up with BMand Mateox? They used to be so great with support and driver stability...

So I guess I'm going to sell this card on Craig's List and look for another brand that I can count on.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the card or the NN update. It seems very much dependent on your video card and NVidia does not play nicely. I do feel your pain :)

The update obviously has a major problem. I had kernel panics with the FCP X 10.0.3 version of the driver, but only when I switched on my broadcast monitor. This time, it's when I boot. So yes, there is very obviously a problem with AJA's driver, for sure. It has nothing to do with anything but AJA. Blaming it nothing else.

Safe Booted, removed drivers, everything is fine now. Damn AJA.

What's the rest of your system? Do you have the Matrox Mini 02?

I have an AJA Kona LHi and an Radeon HD 4870, that's it. Stock Apple graphics card, and AJA can't work with it? Really? They put out a driver for the SECOND time that causes Kernel Panics, and that's excusable? Nope, not in my book. Bad performance is one thing, Kernel Panics are another.

At least the FCPX 10.0.3 drivers only caused Kernel Panics when I turned the monitor on...

All I can tell you is that I downloaded the AJA_KonaLHI_NDD_10 after experiencing the kernel panic. I had already installed FCP .04. FCP now works, but it really splutters, and reports dropped frames as soon as I hit the space bar on Pro Res footage. I had put this down to my NVIDIA QUadro FX 4800 video card, because I have read that this card does not work well with FCP X and doesn't take advantage of its CUDA system.

I just checked to see if the AJA update is broken in Premier CS5.5 and it seems okay.

Do you know if your video card work in an early Macpro 2008, Memory 16 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM?

FCP X does not use CUDA, it uses OpenCL. Quadro cards are not fully OpenCL complaint.

I am on an "Early 2008" Mac Pro 16GB machine.

I can't complain about the AJA Kona drivers, on all of out Mac Pro plus using the AJA drivers for AJA io XT. No kernel panics here.
Do you still have previews version?
This is the first time reading something like this. What else do you have installed?

I spent a bit of time with AJA tech support for the 10.2 version of this driver (FCP X 10.0.3), it would cause random Kernel Panics about twice an hour. They acknowledged there was in fact an issue, but never updated that driver after that.

I've got my information in to them for this issue with 10.3 version of the driver (FCP X 10.0.4), and am waiting to hear back. I know 3 other folks with Mac Pros and Kona cards with this exact same issue.

Solution 1: Safe Boot (hold shift), run the AJA uninstaller, and go back to version 10.1 of this driver. This is what I'm doing now.

Solution 2: I've not done this, but I know someone who claims the non-NDD version of this driver works fine. You lose the ability to use your broadcast monitor as a second Desktop display, but you get broadcast output, although with a bit of lag.

As for the Io XT, that's a whole different animal. It's not the same driver as the Kona PCI card driver.

I'm assuming since everyone else's cards are having problems, it's partly or mostly Apple's FCP dev team struggling with making the output work properly.

Well your two solution are suggest by AJA release notes.
Give a shot.

As far everyone else...
Two Kona 3G (no issues)
Three KONA LHe Plus (no issues)
Two Io XT (no issues)
Four Io HD (no drivers!!!)

I wonder is the broadcast out is still in Beta? Can't find anything on the Apple site indicating it.

I guess it was confirmed by Larry Jordan.

Apple also said the 10.0.4 update significantly improved broadcast monitoring performance, so they have removed the term “beta” when describing it. I specifically asked if 10.0.4 now has sufficient performance to support multicam monitoring and Apple said “Yes.

So I guess it's up to AJA and the rest to get their drivers to work correctly at this point in time. That's a good read by Larry.

Replied by BenB on topic UPDATE!
UPDATE!

Just spoke with AJA tech support who is very aware of the problem. It only happens with the non-NDD version of the 10.3 version (FCP X 10.0.4 version) of the driver with LHi cards only.

So, if you have an LHi card, use the 10.1 driver, or use the non-NDD version of the 10.3 driver for Kona cards from AJA.

Just sent them my system report as per their request, they are working on it.
