Hi there,

I hope you can help me with this weird problem:

every time I want to make a cut in my video, using blade, the audio fades out where I made the cut and then fades in again.

I have been searching everywhere I can, but find no solution.

Why is it doing this? How can I prevent this?

I want to edit my video without the audio getting all messed up with unwanted fades.

Please help if you can.

Thanks a lot!

David Sorensen

I've never seen this behavior before. Odd...

What you need to do is temporarily split the audio from the video and then insert your transition. That way it will just be applied to the video and not the audio.

Just double-click on the bottom of the clips you want to separate and then add the video transition. Double-click again to bring them back together again. That's all there is to it.

@RaycerX I don't think the OP is applying a transition, which would indeed fade the audio. Sounds like he is just slicing the clip and in that case the audio should not fade. I haven't tried slicing any clips in the 10.0.4 release yet but in the previous release the audio level was unaffected by this.

Sorry. Misread the question.

Perhaps, there's some sort of filter on the clip already. Like the Alex4D "Fade In Fade Out" effect. Just grasping at straws here. I haven't come across that yet in the latest release.. Not sure what could be causing that issue, otherwise.

I have not applied any type of transitions. It seems to be a bug. I trashed prefs and re-installed FCPX and it is solved... But a new and just as weird phenomenon arises now: when I perform a simple cut, the audio of the second half suddenly goes way down! You see the waveform sink down. The audio of the first half remains OK.

So strange!

Sounds to me like some kind of conflict. You have other audio tools installed?
What system are you on?

I'm in 10.0.4 and can not replicate this issue at all. So like Seanus asks, what are your hardware specs? Can we get some screen shots?

@ davidsorensen The blade works perfect in 10.0.4 without the described problem. Have you tried to trim the clip instead of slicing, just to see if you have the same issue with the audio between clips? Might give us a clue.
