Friends,

Ive been trying to export a video in FCPX through compressor in mp4 format. When the file is finally exported successfully after few hours( the length of the movie is about 2 hours) the file does not open. Tried exporting it thrice, twice into an external hard drive and once in the internal one, but found the same result. Do help me please.

What are you using to try to open it? What exactly happens when you try to open it?

Also, what is the size of the overall file, and give us what Mac model you're using, and how much RAM you have in it.

iMac - 27-inch, Mid 2011
Processor 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511a)

The total length of the file is 2 hours 31 min.
When i open it with vlc, it quits unexpectedly. In quick time it show " QuickTime Player can't open "Antop Hill Day 1.mp4" because the movie's file format isn't recognized."

How big is this thing? Unless it's very heavily compressed it's going to kill VLC. You might try Movist, which seems to be able to open anything. What are you planning on doing with this thing; I mean why did you make it MPEG-4?

A 2hr 30 mins file compressed to 4 gb. I was planning to write it in a dvd. I guess Mp4 is the basic format right?

You mean you want to put it on the DVD as a data disc, right? MPEG-4 is not the DVD standard.

If you want to make an SD movie DVD, like you rent from Block Busters (or used to back in the day), you need MPEG-2 for video, AC3 for audio, and run it through an authoring app that will create the properly formatted "TS" folder pair.

If you want to make it an Blu-Ray movie DVD, it gets more involved.

If you just want to throw a video file on a data DVD so folks can access it on a computer, make it H.264.
