Work Flow

Work Flow was created by Serge
Hi,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me.
I'm filming an american football team and I wanted to see what the best work flow would be.
The idea is, I import footage after each quarter(to minimise import time after the game) and then by the time the coaches have sorted themselves out, players have changed etc I can give the coaches/QB's a copy of the film(no editing, just the plays). I can burn onto a DVD or copy to a USB drive.
I tried this last week at a pre-season game and it took over an hour to export.

What is the best work flow for this situation? The exported file doesn't have to be in Hd, just something that the coaches can break down the film quickly.

I have a 2011 15' MBP and use FXPX and have compressor. I am using a Canon HF100 camera and record in 1080p. I would like to still record in 1080 as I produce a highlights video later in the week when I time is not an issue.

Thanks in advance,

Serge

Hi Serge, the Canon HF100 produces AVCHD files, right? So I would just import the files, no rendering, no transcoding on import, just assembling the storyline. For the export, I recommend not to use Compressor, but go to Share > Export Media, adjust your settings (video size etc), and then start the export. In my experience, this exports the files approx. in 10 % of the time Compressor would need, and second, it results in a 30% smaller file size (using the same export settings). With a bit of luck, it gets it done between two quarters. And I would definitely use the USB stick method to transfer the clip(s) to the coaches' laptops. Burning DVDs takes too much time (and wastes plastic ;-).
