Looking for someone with experience in "collaborative" workflow

Hi everyone.

I am an editor working for a Danish production company. I am currently in the process of setting up a workflow where two editors will access the same material (event library) but edit in separate sequences (timelines).

From what I have read this should be possible with 10.0.3 when using the "add SAN" function. Am I right?

I can't quite wrap my head around the concept but from what I understand, both editors will have to work from "sparse disc images" in order to edit a timeline and pass this timeline on to another editor (while still having access to the same event library). Is this true?

Does anyone here actually work in this way or do you happen to know of anyone who works this way? I would be very interested in establishing some sort of contact and maybe even visiting you (your company) to see this workflow in working order.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to write me an email if you would be interested showing off your setup.

Thank you for your help..

Kind regards

Ryan Velin, editor

Place all the original media on some central folder somewhere.
Create Events for both editors, and they will Import that media into their Events, but do NOT check the option to copy to the Event folder. This creates "link" files that will point to the originals.

Are you on an XSAN network?

Thank you for your reply.

No we are not on Xsan. We plan on purchasing the Pegasus thunderbolt raid and connecting the iMacs to this using gigabit Ethernet. Will this be ok you think?

Are getting one for each Workstation or just one Pegasus?
I would suggest two Pegasus which each having the media on it.

You can not use the "Add SAN" function unless you're on an XSAN network.

You can't put a T'bolt drive directly on a network. You can let Mac that the drive is connected to, share it over a network.

You are aware that with Ethernet, folks will have to download the media from the networked T'bolt drive to a local drive to edit. Ethernet isn't fast enough for video editing playback.
