Hey Dudes.

I am glad I found this forum during my initiation into FCPx.

I have a video series on Youtube that has the same (or very similar) intro/outro visuals and background sounds and music. I actually created the intro using screen-flow.

My question to you FCPx Gurus is how do I use the same intro content in each new FCPx project I start? I am sure this is done regularly but I am rather new at FCPx and want to know the best way of doing this, keeping in mind that each new project I start will have a new set of associated events to import.

As a work-around, currently I am exporting my FCPx project then importing it into screen-flow where I have the intro/outro already produced. I also use SF to add text and titling since I am not able to figure that put in FCPx yet as well. Yeah, seriously.

I am linking a youtube video here so that you know what I am talking about.

I'd assume you have a folder "Intro_Outro" somewhere with the relevant media. You just import them into the event you are working on.
...or you create a compound clip that you store in an intro/outro event. You can pull this clip into your projects and refine it there.

Check Ripple Training for some good FCP X tutorials.

Yes, create an Event with that stock stuff you use every episode.

Then create a Project that is your "template". Duplicate it every time you need to start a new one, rename the duplicate, start working.

When you get multiple Projects for the series on that drive, create a Folder in the Project Library to put them all in, as needed for organization.

BUT...

Having looked at the episode you posted, I'd not create that stuff in ScreenFlow. I'd create it in Motion, save them as templates, and assign them all the same "Theme". That way all effects, generators, text templates, transitions that you create for this series that all match each other, are all on one place. The "Theme" browser. No jumping all over the place, no Event to track. MUCH easier.

Very interesting. I have much to learn.

Ben I was wondering if when I duplicate the project, does it matter I am using different events after I rename it? How do I manage that?

Using different Events for the duplicate Project? I'm not following you there. Any Project can use any media asset from any Event.

There are a lot of times when I duplicate a project because it contains opening slates I want to use but make a slight change to. I duplicate it, delete what I don't want, keep what I do, add stuff from another event and then rename it to suit the new project. I'm guessing this is what the OP wants to do (or something similar).

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Okay I guess I was being overly concerned about events/projects. I was bringing them in from my camera trying to keep all of them organized with the thought I would be using one event for one project, but it seems there is no problem with using multiple events for a project.

Thanks again.

You can also make a Compound Clip in an Event and create your beginning and ending edits in there, then use that as templates. They can be dropped into any Project at any time. Once in a Project timeline you can alter that copy all you want.
