Newbie clarification - FCPX / MOTION 5 / Templates was created by mnaseersj
Hi , I am trying to get a feel of things before I take a dip into all things FCPX / MOTION5 and movie editing in general. There is one question lingering at the back of my mind is will I be able to edit for example a 640×480 ( 4:3 ) video which has been downloaded from youtube, with the owners permission, such that I am able to include HD (resolution) Templates/Transitions/Generators/Titles etc purchased from a third party, if not what is the 'lowest resolution/aspect ratio' that I can edit. And will I be able to do the same with a footage taken from iPhone or an iPad or any other smart phone - thanking in advance, Nas.

Hi, FCPX doesn't care what you throw at it. Youtube, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch it will happily work with their output. Have a look around at the forums, user groups training sources, creative cow, ripple training, you'll get a good feel for what's possible:)

thank you, that was very helpful, but just one thing - after importing a low resolution say 360p or a 480p clip into FCPX, can I Edit it with a HD template containing Generator/Transitions/Lower thirds etc - many thanks

yup, when the imported footage is being brought in just choose 'other' for resolution and off you go. Check the freely available user guides and help documents online for specifics.

If you want to use a template in a 4:3 project you need to be sure the Motion project was set up with a 4:3 snapshot. I don't have time to sit and go though them, but the FCPX supplied templates probably have this set up for all.
If you your talking about 3rd party templates your best to check with the creator before buying.
