Batch Rename Counter Problem

The batch rename counter assigns numbers in what seem like a completely arbitrary order.

Shouldn't it maintain the sequence of the metadata? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

I never really had use for it, but now that I test it, yes, it seems to be random. Fill out the feedback form. There's no info about it in the user manual. Very odd behavior. I'm asking some other trainers about it to see if anyone has some info. But yes, it does seem pretty freakin' random. Fill out the feedback page!

Here's a screengrab. Looking into the clip info, I can't find any data that would give us this sequence. Weird!

Does anyone know any workarounds? I've got a couple thousand clips I'd rather not number manually.

I've never been able to crack the code that is Apple's numbering system. Funny thing is that it doesn't appear to be random as it will do the same odd numbering every time. So far I've worked out it's not based on duration, creation date, modification date, timecode or the original or new name.

Bizarre and very annoying.

I think it's the internal code FCP assign to every clip on import. Unfortunately the order clips are imported are not in order of the original filename. I guess this is because of FCP processing multiple clips at once.

That said they need to fix it :-) Feedback send.

PS. If this is Sean from Melbourne, it's Carsten from Sydney. The German fellow who once shipped an Avid from Germany. Hope you're well!

OMG Carsten! Glad to see you're still on the bleeding edge of technology!

I'll never forget that time that Matt Denton proved your broadcast monitor was calibrated to the Northern Hemisphere by turning it upside down and all the chromatic aberrations disappeared. Ha ha

Ha, some say I'm still looking at things upside down..

Yep call me one of those weirdoes who actually love X :-)

Good to see you are still at it too. Next time I'm in Melbourne I should give you a shout and we should look at some glasses upside down.

It seems like this still hasn't been fixed and it's been 3.5 years! I submitted feedback but this is a pretty basic function that I presume lots of people need to work correctly.
