Who actually uses EDL's and Why?

Hey All

I've been looking at lots of forums and people opinions on future features and I wanted peoples views and usage of EDL.

I first used EDL myself for paper edits about ten years ago then didn't touch them again untill recently when they were required as project deliverables. I find that some uk broadcasters/production companies just like these as deliverables and some use it to track what archive and music that has been used to pay appropriate royalties.

So I wanted to see what others think. Personally I thought it was dead but obviously some usage to some people, just wondered what people use them for if at all.

I'm trying to gather whether there is a better way in FCPX to get same information clients would want.

And EDL output could be made from the XML data, I guess. But yes, EDL's are being used less and less as productions go tapless and rely on metadata and databases much more.

Yeah i think the metadata is more powerful and useful but some people seem to prefer edl's. Shall see if anyone else here have an opinion.
