Desperately seeking help with regards to more than one editor per project

Hello. I have been trying for quite some time to wrap my head around the concept of several editors per project in FCPX. I have read several tips and tricks and many articles about this subject, but none of them seems to answer my questions.
I will try to describe the workflow I am seeking help with:
I am working on a television show with material loaded into one event stored on a shared folder(server?). Is there any way two editors can be working on this event at the same time? We will be working in two different projects but can we access the same material from the same event simultaneously? If so is there any way we can share keyword collections or how would this be done?
I have read Apple's Xsan whitepaper but I really don't understand it. And to me my question is pretty simple: two (or more) editors, one event, two (or more) projects?
Is there anyone in here with experience in this field?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
regards
RYAN

Hi Ryan,
We have three FCP10 units on XSAN, and of course I have tried this.
The answer is: no, you cannot have more than one editor working on the same SAN location at the same time. This has been clarified by Apple:
Although you can access SAN locations from different computers on a network, only one installed copy of Final Cut Pro can use a SAN location at a time. If you have Events or projects stored on a SAN location, you must remove the location in Final Cut Pro to make it available to other computers on the network.
This may be just a temporarily limitation. Alex Golnner discovered some hidden functions inside FCP10 (called Guards)showing that collaborative editing might be possible in the future:

As FCP10 already incorporates many features of the former Final Cut Server I wouldn't be surprised collaborative editing is on the list for a next update.

Apple has a white paper on best practices for FCP X and XSAN.
support.apple.com/kb/HT5084
Basically, you put the media assets in a central directory (folder) on the server. You create a Disk Images on the server for each editor, so they have their own volume for FCP X to find Events and Projects. Each editor imports the media assets from the central storage into their own Events, but do NOT copy them to the Event folder.

Hi Ronny
Thanks for your reply. Excuse me for asking but I just don't understand so please forgive me;
is it possible for two editors to access the same imported material from folder? Not the actual event in FCPX but in the root folder.

Hi Ryan,
If that's the only thing you need the answer is yes. But that's hardly what I call collaborative editing. You could achieve exactly the same thing by just copying the Event from editing station 1 onto an external drive and have editing station 2 work on that drive. I know this is over-simplified but it comes down to the same thing: sharing media but nothing else.
Best wishes,
Ronny
