XML pointing to Original Media, not Transcoded Media

Hi,
I found a few threads about this subjects, but no real answer. Sorry if I missed it.

I'm having a hard time with the FCPX-to-Nuke script, for the clips transcoded in FCPX.
Nuke opens the H.264 file instead of the Prores one.
Cheking the XML file with a text editor, I understood it was pointing to the Original Media.

Is there a way to export an XML pointing to the Transcoded Media?... or any good workflow to open the Prores clips into Nuke, without exporting every single clips from FCP?

Thanks.

I finally found a way to sort it out.
Just in case someone is interested: I just had to edit the xml file with TextEdit:

-Drag the .fcpxml on the TextEdit Icon
-Press Cmd+F
-Find: Original%20Media
-Replace by: Transcoded%20Media/High%20Quality%20Media
-Clic on "replace all"
-Save

That's it. I can now import clips into nuke, or load the XML in Davinci Resolve.

Write the author of that utility and let them know.

How are you importing your stuff into FCP X? Are you both Optimizing and copying the originals? If so, Optimize and don't copy originals. I never understood why anyone would do both.

With AVCHD footage, I don't even know how to do not let FCP rewrap the files.

But you are copying the originals into the Event, right?

Well, FCP is doing it automatically. I just "import from camera"... select the AVCHD folder I want to import... I have no option to copy or not the original, so FCP just rewrap the .MTS files into .MOV h.264, and place it into the Original Media folder.

Yesterday, before finding the Text Edit solution, I realized I could simply remplace the H.264 files by the Prores ones, in the Original Media folder. I thought FCP will not accept the coded change, but no, no problem. My media were still online.
Anyway, I prefer the Text Edit way than messing up with the files from the finder.

I'm confused, as FCP X shouldn't be making H.264 files, it should be making ProRes 422 files. That's really odd.

I just did a test with some P2 footage, that I assumed would be imported as "Optimized", meaning DVCPRO-HD or ProRes 422, and it shows as DVCPR0-HD in FCP X's Inspector, but when I open it in QT Player, it shows as (quotes included) 'dvhp' codec, whatever the hell that is.

OK, Apple is doing something odd, or else Panasonic is doing something odd with their plugin. Proxy media is transcoded as ProRes 422 (Proxy), but the original media is 'dvhp', whatever the hell that is. Very interesting.

If you open your imported clips from the Event > Original Media folder into QT Player, is it reading the codec as H.264? Cause that's odd it's keeping it in it's original Long-GOP format, and not actually Optimizing it.

Yes, the files automatically created in the Original Media folder are H.264, and, if I check "Create Optimized Media" or "Create Proxy", it will create Prores files in the Transcoded Media folder.
